Privacy Policy
Last updated·July 2, 2026
1. Introduction
Playa Cruisers, Inc. ("Playa Cruisers," "we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you use our website at https://playacruisers.com, make a rental booking, join our waitlist, contact us, or use the Playa Maps mobile application (together, the "Services").
The Playa Maps app is privacy-first: it does not require a personal account or email login, does not collect your name or email, and does not upload trip improvement data unless you explicitly opt in.
2. Scope
This policy covers information collected through Playa Cruisers web services and Playa Maps. It does not apply to unaffiliated third-party websites or services we do not control. Third-party services, including Stripe, Supabase, Apple, Google/Firebase, HERE Technologies, and map data providers, may process information under their own terms and privacy policies.
3. Website, Account, and Rental Information
- Contact and inquiry data: name, email address, phone number, message content, or other information you submit through forms or support requests.
- Account and rental data: account details, reservation dates, vehicle type, pickup location, driver details, uploaded documents, rental status, and related booking information.
- Payment data: payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers. We may store Stripe identifiers, payment status, card brand/last four digits, receipts, refunds, and security-deposit information needed to operate the rental program.
- Marketing and waitlist data: email address and preferences when you subscribe to updates or join a waitlist.
- Technical and usage data: IP address, browser type, operating system, referral URLs, and site interaction information collected through cookies, analytics, logs, and similar tools.
4. Playa Maps: No Personal Account, No Identity
Playa Maps has no personal sign-up, email login, name, or email profile. We do not build a user profile linked to your identity and we do not track you across other apps or websites. Downloading the app is not consent to upload improvement data.
The only Playa Maps data that leaves your device beyond live map, search, and routing lookups is optional improvement data, feedback, or coverage requests you choose to send. Optional improvement data is pseudonymous: it is tagged with a random identifier and processed to limit precision, but it is not strictly anonymous because trips you contribute can share the same identifier.
5. Playa Maps Information
Location, Search, and Navigation
- Current location: used to provide navigation and show your position on the map. Live location is processed for navigation and is not uploaded as a continuous stream for navigation.
- Saved places and search history: home location, favorites, and recent searches are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded by Playa Maps for improvement.
- Route requests: when you request a route, origin, destination, and for search-based destinations the destination name may be sent to routing services to compute the route. These requests are processed transiently; our routing services log only coarsened coordinates and do not store destination names.
Help Plan Better Routes: Optional and Off by Default
Playa Maps offers one optional data setting called Help Plan Better Routes. It is off by default. Nothing is uploaded for maps or network improvement until you explicitly choose "Yes, help improve routes" on first launch or turn on the setting later.
When enabled, this setting may upload pseudonymous data such as:
- Trip summaries: coarsened route geometry, distance, duration, speed summaries, transport mode, designated-network usage, and coarse time-of-day context. We trim approximately the first and last 200 meters of each trip and coarsen coordinates to roughly street level. We do not upload destination names as part of trip improvement data.
- Parking usage events:when a trip ends at or near a known cart-parking location, we may record the curated parking spot used, approximate dwell duration, confidence band, and coarse time-of-day context. These events reference the public parking spot's identifier and city, not raw coordinates.
- Usage and diagnostics: app interaction, performance, and diagnostic events used to keep navigation reliable, carrying the same random identifier and no contact information.
When this setting is off, no trip paths, parking events, usage events, or diagnostics are uploaded for improvement. Turning it off during a drive discards the trip in progress.
6. How We Use Information
- Provide website, account, rental, booking, payment, support, and navigation services.
- Process transactions, deposits, refunds, confirmations, reminders, and customer communications.
- Verify driver documents and support safe rental operations.
- Respond to inquiries, quote requests, waitlist requests, feedback, and coverage requests.
- With your opt-in in Playa Maps, improve app reliability, safer routes, and designated-network coverage using aggregated statistics.
- Help cities and planners understand aggregate network usage, not identify individual riders. Shared statistics are combined across riders and small counts are suppressed before publication.
- Protect the security, integrity, and legal rights of Playa Cruisers and our users.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
7. Information Sharing
We may disclose information in these limited circumstances:
- Service providers: vendors that help us operate the Services, including hosting, databases, authentication, email delivery, payments, maps, routing, analytics, storage, security, and support.
- Aggregate planning statistics: participating cities and regional planning agencies may receive only combined statistics, such as trip counts or network-adherence percentages, with small counts suppressed.
- Legal requirements and protection: when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, security, or prevent fraud.
- Business transfers:in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of all or part of Playa Cruisers' assets.
8. Data Storage, Security, and Retention
- Some Playa Maps data, including saved places and search history, is stored locally on your device.
- Opt-in Playa Maps trip, parking, feedback, and diagnostics data may be stored securely in the cloud using Firebase and related infrastructure.
- Contributed raw trips and parking events are retained for no more than 90 days from collection and then deleted. After deletion, only non-identifying, combined statistics remain.
- Website, account, rental, payment, and support records are retained as long as needed to provide the Services, maintain business records, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, comply with law, and enforce agreements.
- We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
9. Your Rights and Choices
- Playa Maps opt-in control: Help Plan Better Routes is off until you affirmatively enable it. You can change this choice at any time in Settings; turning it off stops future collection immediately.
- On-device control: search history and saved places live on your device; deleting the app removes them.
- Deletion in Playa Maps:Settings includes Delete my trips and feedback, which removes recorded trips, parking events, and feedback reports tied to your device's random identifier from our servers. City coverage requests contain no device identifier and cannot be located for deletion, and aggregate statistics already derived are not recalculated.
- Marketing choices: you can opt out of marketing emails by using the unsubscribe link or contacting us.
- Access, correction, and deletion requests: you may request access, correction, or deletion of personal information, subject to applicable law and verification. For Playa Maps data, we may need the random identifier shown in Settings because Playa Maps does not maintain a name- or email-based account for you.
To exercise privacy rights, email privacy@playacruisers.com.
10. California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, may give you rights over personal information, including pseudonymous data such as opt-in Playa Maps telemetry.
- Right to know: you may request categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
- Right to delete: you may request deletion of personal information, subject to exceptions. Playa Maps also provides an in-app deletion control for trips and feedback.
- Right to correct: you may request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of sale/sharing: we do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Right to limit sensitive personal information: precise location processed on device for navigation is used to provide the service you request. Uploaded trip data is trimmed and coarsened as described above.
- Non-discrimination: we will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.
11. Third-Party Services
- Stripe: payment processing for rentals, refunds, receipts, and security deposits.
- Supabase: account, database, authentication, and storage services for website and rental operations.
- Resend: transactional email delivery.
- Apple Maps / MapKit and Core Location: mapping, search, navigation, and device location services in Playa Maps.
- Firebase (Google): pseudonymous trip, diagnostics, feedback, and coverage-request storage when you opt in or take an explicit action that sends data to us. Firebase Anonymous Authentication creates a random app identifier; it does not include your name, email, or sign-in credentials.
- HERE and routing data providers: speed-limit and routing lookups through services that keep provider API credentials server-side and log only coarsened coordinates.
12. Children's Privacy
Our Services are not intended for children under 13. Playa Maps has no accounts, social features, or advertising, and NEV navigation features are intended for licensed drivers. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us and we will delete it.
13. United States Only
The Services are currently offered in the United States. Data is stored and processed in the United States. If we make Playa Maps available in other regions, we will update this policy to describe the rights available under those regions' laws before doing so.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Privacy Policy on the website and, where appropriate, in Playa Maps.
